This discussion is concerned with Caltex operations in Sumatra. The system is described, a brief history is included outlining the stages of its development together with the engineering reasons for the selection of each step in the expansion. Materials used and methods of installation are discussed. In the Appendix is a discussion of friction loss with sample calculations, curves of friction factor, etc. and helpful rules of thumb.
