Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 32nd Ann. Conv., 2008
VICO Indonesia, a gas and oil producer for 30 years has committed to manage its environment. It is stated in HSE Policy Statement approved by the President and CEO of VICO Indonesia. In line with the international agreement to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, known as the Kyoto Protocol, VICO Indonesia formed the GHG Reduction Taskforce on 15 Sept 2001 to participate in reducing GHG emissions. At that time VICO targeted a reduction in GHG emissions 10 percent below 2001 baseline levels until 2010.VICO Indonesia GHG management procedures: Maintain inventory VICO GHG emissions sources in the field Establish baseline reports and continually improve accurate monitoring Identify opportunities to reduce GHG emissions as per corporate goals and objectivesFocusing on Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Methane (CH4) emissions, VICO monitors the following GHG sources: Direct emissions from Field Operations, Indirect emissions from Jakarta officeVICO also created a GHG database to record and track activities related to GHG emissions from their sources. The supporting system will calculate total GHG emissions. So far, the continuous efforts of the GHG reduction program entails gas to air instrument replacement, installation of Very Low Pressure (25 Psig) Compressor, improve engine performance, install blow-down portable compressor, alter crude oil diesel fuel pump to electric pump, etc.The project recently moved to recover low pressure gas using Vapor Reduction Unit (VRU) Compressors. In addition to reducing GHG emissions the project contributes additional gas production.Through the above efforts, VICO GHG emission performance has far surpassed its achievement target to reduce 10 percent GHG emissions in 10 years. This was achieved in 2004, six years earlier than the original objective. In fact, in 2007 VICO Indonesia achieved significant GHG emissions reduction of 29 percent.
