All oil fields eventually decline in production. VSITTM (Vibroseismic Impact Technology) can delay and reverse that decline. The oil fields of Sumatra, Indonesia contain reservoirs of mostly sandstone, with relatively high porosity and permeability. The reservoir depths are 250ft - 9000 ft. The water-drive oil fields have been producing at high water-cut and relatively low levels of oil production.Conventional workovers have been applied to increase oil production with the results of barely economical costs and production increase. Reported here are case histories in which proprietary, original VSITTM has repeatedly increased oil field production and production potential.Typically, VSIT brings more oil to the wellbore in older fields. Controlled vibrations dramatically reduce surface tension, as a result of reducing the static friction which holds previously unrecoverable oil in place in the reservoir, a higher volume of produceable oil is available.- First stage production increase comes from more fluid being pumped since more is available.- Second stage increase comes from Engineer adjustment of pumps responding to the new reservoir and well conditions as the oil / water ratio improves.- A third stage increase can come from newly economical in-fill drilling, horizontal wells, sidetracks, and injection pattern adjustment. In general, VSIT-induced oil production increased 15%-30% above the pre-VSIT baseline for more than one year. The production response from freed oil can be found immediately after vibration or as later as six (6) months afterwards. VSIT works synergistically with other EOR processes (water-flood, steam-flood, surfactant-flood etc.) by improving flood distribution efficiency.VSIT has also been found effective in limestone reservoirs. Important benefits of VSIT are fast results relative to alternative EOR processes, no need for additional infrastructure, and its friendliness to the environment.
