Water saturation is an important parameter in hydrocarbons in a place calculation. The equilibrium nature of water saturation in reservoir will needs accurate determination of the free water level (FWL), transition height, and irreducible water saturation. The transition zone is influential reservoir volume modeling over a big area. Sometimes, SCAL capillary pressure data show the water saturation to be inaccurate because the plugs were not de-saturated to irreducible water saturation and capillary pressure equilibrium may not have been reached. This study focused on a basin with interbedded shale and a sand clastic sedimentary resevoir. Water saturation was calculated as being above the FWL using Cuddy’s method to ignore the value of the capillary pressure on the SCAL data.
This paper describes the evaluation of water saturation in the transition zone of the hydrocarbon reservoir using the so-called Cuddy’s saturation height method. This method was performed by ignoring the capillary preassure values on the SCAL data. Cuddy’s saturation height method was computed the parameter used in the evaluation are using porosity, the height of transition zone above FWL (h), and constant values of (a and b). Porosity was taken from petrophysical data obtained from density and neutron logs and then the height above FWL in the transition zone was calculated. The results were obtained in the form of Cuddy’s water saturation in the transition zone by showing the presence of the reservoir sands capillary pressure in the transition zone. Cuddy’s water saturation was compared with water saturations from log data using SCAL values. Water saturation from Cuddy’s equation was calculated as having as good quality as the water saturation from log from the SCAL data. We can use Cuddy’s method if we do not have SCAL data to compute water saturation in the transition zone.
